Mermaid Core
In 2024, when the fashion world is witnessing birth of various trends people believe that clothes are not just pieces of fabrics but something that can be reflection of the mind, the attitude, the soul. More and more fashion trends try to return us to the childhood, when everyone wanted to be somebody despite everything. Princesses, ballerinas, pirates, fairies — doesn’t matter! Fashion reminds you to be yourself even if you aren’t a child anymore.
“— But this dream is not reality.
— Who’s to say which is which?”
Alice in Wonderland, 2016
This little dialogue between Hatter and Alice from “Alice in Wonderland” best illustrates the main purpose of fashion nowadays. Who says you can’t dress as you like? Who says you look strange in this sequin skirt? People judge and they will always be. But don’t forget that every fashion trend is dictated by none other than people.
An Essence of Mermaid Aesthetic
The Mermaid aesthetic is inspired by the mythical underwater world of mermaids. It embodies ethereal, magical vibe with sea-inspired elements. The main idea is to reflect this in the overall look.
Although the popularity of the Mermaidcore was gaining momentum, the release of the live-action “The Little Mermaid” in the summer of 2023 was the main impetus. Since then a lot of celebrities and influencers picked the idea of the little mermaid image.
Despite the peak of the Mermaidcore being a year ago, the fashion industry still actively uses this style in its collections, interpreting it in its own way but maintaining the main aesthetics. An example of this is Louis Vuitton’s Cruise Collection 2024.
